No Days Featured Artist - Karen Dixon of Karen Dixon Kiln-Formed Glass

Karen Dixon of Karen Dixon Kiln-Formed Glass

Karen Dixon is an award winning glass artist.  Her work has been exhibited throughout the south at juried gallery and museum exhibitions. Her most recent award was the Maury Smith Award at the 39th Annual Montgomery Art Guild, Montgomery Museum of Fine Art Exhibition in spring 2011.
Karen is a co-owner of Dixon-Ballog Glass Gallery & Studio, LLC located just south of Birmingham in Pelham, AL. The studio offers  a fine art glass gallery, architectural commissions and courses in kiln-formed glass.

Karen holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular genetics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Her training as a scientist has been instrumental in her commitment to fine craftsmanship and attention to detail.  It is this love of experimentation that continues to drive her technical development as a specialist in kiln-formed glass.

"I use lots of pieces and layers in my work.  I was very happy to find No Days Liquid Fusing Adhesive so parts stay where I place them, and it sets up quickly. I especially like it for creating projects with multiple layers that require specific placement of pieces to give a dimensional effect. It saves time and it fires clean at tack, full and casting temperatures."

In addition to creating her own artwork, Karen also teaches classes and co-runs a glass gallery, Dixon-Ballog Glass Gallery and Studio. They offer everything from walk in projects to classes on box and open face castings.

For Karen's personal website, visit www.kdixonglass.com.
For more information on the glass studio, gallery and classes offered, visit www.dixon-ballog.com.

Featured Artist Barb Byrne of Eclectic Treasures

Barb Byrne of Eclectic Treasures has always immersed herself in arts & crafts. She began sewing in high school, working with embroidery and needlework as a young adult, and then spinning and basket weaving when she moved with her husband to a 300-acre farm in mid-Missouri in 1990.
In the late 90s, she wove a full-sized baby cradle for her first grandchild and it was so well-received that she began a small business, aptly named Heirloom Cradles, making and selling doll cradles of all sizes, including miniatures. While on the farm, Barb began growing her own gourds after discovering gourd art, turning her gourds into decorated vases, bowls, and jewelry. She found a way to marry her love of weaving with gourds and her specialty became weaving natural materials onto the rims of decorated gourds.

Creating Fused Glass Mosaics ~ A Tutorial

No Days ThinFuse is a thin heat activated adhesive film that allows you to build intricate fused glass designs in a comfortable workspace, and then easily transport your piece to the kiln, ensuring your design stays put. It essentially creates a faux tack fuse, allowing you to eliminate extra firings and cut back on the amount of time it takes to finish a multi-step fused glass project.  Once the adhesive has been heat set, you can continue to add elements to the piece before firing in a kiln.  ThinFuse is a perfect solution for creating quick & easy fused glass mosaics.

Featured Artist Laury Burns of Mywave Mosaics

Laury Burns of Mywave Mosaics

Laury Burns of Mywave Mosaics hails from a large family, the youngest of 7 kids, who were interested in all things art from a very young age. She made a conscious decision during childhood not to major in art, believing it would be too hard to make a living as an artist. With her father's profession as an anatomy professor, and her love of math and science, it made sense for Laury to get her B.S. in Zoology instead.

Micro Mosaic Tutorial - No Days Groutless Adhesive

No Days Groutless Micro Mosaic Tutorial

No Days Groutless Mosaic Adhesive quickly secures glass, ceramic and stone tiles to substrates and fills in grout lines during heating. It's a one step glue and grout process that works perfectly with the Micro Mosaic process.

With all the tiny tiles, you want to make sure that you're not covering a large surface, unless you don't mind having projects sit for awhile :) The shadowbox I filled for this tutorial is 5" x 7" and it took approximately 5 hours to cut the tiles and assemble the pieces. You can save yourself some time by buying pre-cut tiles.

No Days Featured Artist Susan Gamble of
Santa Theresa Tile Works in Tucson, AZ
She recently used No Days Mosaic Adhesive to complete a mosaic installation on Wedi Board. "Both the installer and I are quite pleased with the results. No Days Mosaic Adhesive worked really well."
Custom mosaic installation using handmade ceramic tiles from
Santa Theresa Tile Works and No Days Mosaic Adhesive on Wedi Board
"When working with larger ceramic tiles (that can sometimes be warped), you can layer the No Days Mosaic Adhesive to build up a thicker layer of adhesive behind the pieces." Alternatively, she suggests using the No Days Groutless Mosaic Adhesive behind the tiles that are warped, because it is a thicker layer of film that eliminates the need to layer the adhesive.
Step by step Groutless Mosaic Adhesive on Wedi board with Santa Theresa tiles
"I got quite good at building up layers of adhesive, using the heat gun, etc.  I have developed some good
 skills and techniques."

As well as making the ceramic tiles, Santa Theresa Tile Works offers classes in making tiles and mosaics. Watch for the New Technology Workshops, where Susan offers her experience and advice in working with No Days Mosaic Adhesive. Some of her students have gone on to create architectural mosaics of their own, including a large mosaic fire pit.

Creating Fused Glass Mosaics Using No Days ThinFuse

To download the pdf, visit Streuter's project gallery.

Creating fused glass mosaics is a breeze using No Days ThinFuse. When you heat set the adhesive to hold the glass pieces in place, you create a faux tack fuse with a super strong bond that allows you to "frout" (grouting with frit) your piece without waiting! If the glass pieces set up but they're not where you want them, simply re-heat to re-position the piece.

Featured Artist Jennifer Urbaniak of My Little Pink Boutique

Jennifer Urbaniak of My Little Pink Boutique

"I was working for a supplier in the art glass world about 4 years ago as a general manager for the company, when I decided to try my hand at crafting. Barb Steffan from Sunshine Glassworks exposed me to fused glass, and I was hooked from day one!

I began creating and selling my jewelry pieces in local art shows. This past summer, I proudly received two awards: Best in Show at the Lancaster Fine Arts Show (Lancaster, NY) and the Special Judges Award at the Quaker Arts Show (Orchard Park, NY).

I have begun lampworking in the past few years, as well as building mosaics occasionally. I love the No Days Mosaic Adhesive Film because it allows me the freedom to easily remove and replace tesserae as I change my mind and my mosaic designs evolve!"

Attaching Lots of Bails At One Time using No Days Bailbond

To download the pdf, visit Streuter's project gallery.

Do you have a whole bunch of cabochons laying in wait to become pendants? All you need to do is get out the epoxy and glue 'em? (Yes, I hate epoxy that much, too!) Good thing there's No Days Bailbond!

It's a heat set adhesive for your bails, that's totally non-toxic, quick to set, easy to re-work and you can set all your pendants at once by throwing them in the oven!

No more epoxy headaches. No more tearing bails apart to fix the one that slid out of place. If you need to change a silver bail to a gold bail, just re-heat the adhesive to remove the old one. Heat the new one in place, and as soon as the pendant cools (less than 5 minutes) it's ready to wear!

For more project ideas and inspiration, check out Streuter.com!
