2014 Glass Craft & Bead Expo ~ Hot Mosaics & Tempered Glass with Christine Stewart

Join Australian Glass Artist Christine Stewart at the Las Vegas Glass Craft & Bead Expo on Friday, March 28th from 8am-4pm as she shares her various mosaic techniques including her use of No Days Mosaic Adhesive.

FR_29 - HOT MOSAICS AND TEMPERED GLASS
Tempered Glass, or safety glass, breaks in a different manner to non-tempered glass; instead of breaking into sharp shards it shatters into a matrix of small pebble shapes which do not have sharp edges. The shattered tempered glass is almost crystalline in appearance and when laid down in a mosaic design has a sparkling textural effect. Combine this with Hot Mosaic Components, the electric colors of Dichroic Glass, or your treasured glass beads and your mosaic projects will take on a very exciting creative form - a new glass adventure to explore!

In this class, you will be working on a clear glass base within a picture frame. You will fire the Hot Mosaic Components of your design in the kiln, be shown gluing techniques and how to lay down your design onto the glass surface with the aim of creating a transparent glass to glass Hot Mosaic project combining the elements of Tempered Glass, Dichroic Glass & Glass Beads, and then add further dimension with surface layering techniques with the addition of Beads and other Fired Components. Reverse painting coloring techniques, gold leaf and decorative papers can also be used to add more depth and shadowy intrigue to the finished piece. Students bring: glass cutting tools, glass mosaic cutters, work surface, Sharpie Marking Pen, small pair scissors, tweezers, notepad & Pen. Wear covered footwear and protective eye wear.

2014 Glass Craft & Bead Expo ~ Hot Mosaics with Christine Stewart

Hot Mosaics with Christine Stewart
Join Australian Glass Artist Christine Stewart at the Las Vegas Glass Craft & Bead Expo on Wednesday, March 26th from 9am-5pm, where she'll be sharing tips and tricks for using No Days in your mosaics.

WE_29_A - HOT MOSAICS - GETS HOTTER & HOTTER
In this dynamic Two Day class Christine will definitely spark your inspiration and fascination with 'HOT MOSAICS", a technique which combines two of the hottest trends in glass art - mosaics and glass fusing! With a small kiln and basic fusing skills you will fire up fused glass components to incorporate within your mosaic designs. These components will be further embellished by using frit, stringer, confetti, glass paints, 22ct gold and dichroic glass. The effect is unique with the softened rounded edges of the fired components creating a dramatic contrast to the neighboring non fired flat pieces of glass. Students will complete a 10" x 10" Hot Mosaic Project and learn the technical aspects of fusing glass in a kiln while designing specifically for mosaics..... and then it gets Hotter !!! Christine will demonstrate how to apply HOT MOSAICS to acrylic, leather, fabric and metal, adding a gorgeous touch of bling. Just imagine the new project possibilities for you and your students. - creating mosaic designs on leather belts, purses, acrylic frames, watch bands ... even elegant shawls and fabrics. Then you will push the limits even further as Christine shares with you her 'Dimensional Mosaic Layering Techniques"...... this additional decorative layer is added to the completed surface of your mosaic designs - applied after grouting. These additional design elements may either be fired components or decorative beads, jewelry or any interesting shape or material. You will be guided step by step through all of Christine's HOT MOSAIC techniques and also thoroughly cover surface preparation, applications of mosaic and suitable surfaces, which adhesives to use when, how to layer and build up dimension within your designs, to grout or not to grout, grout coloring techniques ... all your questions will be answered. Students bring: glass cutting tools, glass mosaic cutters, glass cutting surface, Sharpie marking pen, small pair scissors, tweezers, note pad & pen. Students must wear safety glasses and wear covered footwear.

2014 Glass Craft & Bead Expo ~ Frit Wafers in the Oven with Jacqui Bush

Frit Wafers created using Jacqui's special No Days technique
Join No Days Artist and Instructor Jacqui Bush at the 2014 Glass Craft & Bead Expo on Saturday, March 29 from 8 am - 4 pm for an exciting new fusing technique for creating quick frit (& powder) wafers for fusing.

SA_24 - Frit Wafers in the Oven
What?!?! No Fusing!!!!! Yes, you heard correctly. Frit wafers in the oven. Tired of trying to get frit where you want it to go? Tired of the mess when you breath on your project or try to spray it with hair spray? Tired on the time it takes to fuse the frit wafer then fuse your project? Wouldn't it be easier if you could quickly make a frit wafer, that isn’t fragile, and place it on your glass and then fuse it? Or make a bunch at one time and then create your project without waiting on the kiln? YOU CAN!!! These wafers are very sturdy and travel well - unlike the wafers you create on a kiln shelf. You will also learn other techniques for working with frits, powders and enamels that take all of the frustration out of being able to transport them. You will make several frit wafers and create two 4 x 4 fused tiles using 2 different techniques. Come see what you can do with your oven besides cooking dinner. Hobby Knife, dust mask, copies of designs, stencils, drawings, etc that you might be interested in using . Contact instructor for more information if needed.

Saturday 8:00am - 4:00pm

Jacqui Bush took her first copper foil class in 1997 and hasn't looked back. From flat glass to warm glass, and silver art clay to enamels, her classes and experimenting continue. In 2004, she could no longer resist the call of the glass and left her career in technology to open a studio. She has a contagious passion for glass in all its forms and loves to share it with others through teaching and demonstrating. Some of her favorite places to share glass art in all its glory include: local schools (K-12), colleges, Historic Living History Day demonstrations at a local century-old village, city festivals, Library openings, and anywhere she can. One of the most rewarding, and popular activities, are her frequent "Teach the Teacher" workshops and her many students, aged 4 to 94. Jacqui is certified in the Unique Glass paints, a member of AGA, RAGS, and is on the Board of Directors for the KBW Education Foundation.
